Hidden Oasis

Only one more day and you're off for the July 4th holiday weekend...the best way to relax is to vist me in my 'oasis of calm'. If that's impossible right now, I have a virtual 'oasis' from reality - a mini 'pre-vacation'!

Today, we relax and cool off by taking a 3-minute break at a hidden waterfall on the Havasupai Indian Reservation here in Arizona.  I'd like to take a weekend, stay at the lodge on the reservation and go explore the waterfalls in this area...would you like to take me?

Dita Von Teese is the biggest name in neo-burlesque since Gypsy Rose Lee. Performing burlesque since 1992, she has been credited with bringing back the allure of Old Hollywood stars and burlesque, with a new sense of glamour and sophistication.

Dita is best known for her cocktail glass show where she performs a classic style striptease culminating with her bathing in a glass. She recreated this iconic show for her role as the global ambassador for Cointreau. Her “Be Cointreauversial,” show is a grander version of her famous cocktail glass show which she has performed in Tokyo, Sydney, New York, London, Paris, Sao Paulo and Los Angeles. Enjoy!

Talk Dirty - Victorian Style

Living in the sexually liberated 21st century, where we are accustomed to being open, honest and 'authentic', we usually assume that the Victorians were uptight and prudish. We imagne tea parties, dinners and dances with women dressed in constricting stiff crinoline and whalebone, where only polite conversation was allowed. Are our assumptions accurate?

The Victorian era lasted as long as the reign of Queen Victoria - from 1837-1901; it was a time when women wore bathing garments even in the privacy of their own bath. The hems of Victorian skirts went to the floor, and the mere glimpse of a woman's ankle or leg was risqué. Victorians even pulled stockings over the legs of their pianos!

Sex was to be engaged in only within a marriage, as a means for producing children and heirs to the family name. It was a regular custom for married, upper class Victorian couples to have their own bedrooms.

It was a different story outside of aristocratic, 'polite' society. Sex before marriage was common among the poorer classes as was the use of vulgar slang.

A gentleman parched for sex would not be averse to consorting with prostitutes or keeping a mistress, so vulgar, sexual slang would also have been used by polite gentlemen looking for a quick roll in the hay - a bit of dirty sex that they could keep nice and separate from their respectable, polite marriage and social life.

Prostitutes and procuring love for money were rife in the Victorian era. Prostitution was big business in Victorian cities. You had toffers (upscale prostitutes) and bawd-houses ranging from gritty, cheap affairs to fancy brothels catering to exotic, expensive or even simply mundane tastes. Prostitution was a common outlet for a man frustrated with the inhibition of polite Victorian ladies. 

Mistresses (known as one's 'Convenient') were not uncommon - a mistress being a lover you had alongside your wife, who was 'kept' with housing, money and presents. A mistress could range from a woman well-versed in arts and educated conversation to a street girl, but a mistress was - at least to her benefactor - a prostitute who only had one client - the benefactor.

Sexual slang offered Victorians a form of protection. If a gentleman wanted to hook up with a woman, he could use victorian slang as a kind of code. Using real words could lead to potential embarrassment, but the intricacies of Victorian sexual slang would mean no embarrassment or harm done either way. A polite woman wouldn't understand what he was talking about, and a naughty lady would nod understandingly and take his hand.

Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure

From the classic erotic tale, Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure, (also known as Fanny Hill). This was written by John Cleland while he was in debtor's prison in London, England. It was first published in 1748 and is considered "the first original English prose pornography":

Tantra Massage

Tantra massage is a healing experience created from the belief that your health benefits when you are sexually happy and relaxed. Orgasm may be a happy, blissful bonus ending, but it is not the goal.

Each tantra practitioner will have their own way of giving the experience, depending on the receiver's needs and the practitioner's training and experience. Very little phases the die-hard New Yorker. Most people in NYC - from the homeless to the wealthy - use public transportation to get around. Internal Enjoyments in Its Various Forms

The Ananga Ranga (Stage of Love) or Kamaledhiplave (Boat in the Sea of Love) is an Indian sex manual wtitten in the 15th or 16th century by Kalyana Malla. This poet wrote the work in honor of Lad Khan, son of Ahmed Khan Lodi. The Lodi dynasty ruled Delhi from 1451 to 1526.

This work is often compared to the Kama Sutra and scholars believe the book was aimed specifically at preventing the separation of a husband and wife. The book provides instructions on how a husband can promote the love for his wife through sexual pleasure.

It was believed that increasingly varied sexual pleasures can produce harmony, and prevent the couple from getting bored with one another.

Along with extensive descriptions of sexual positions for both partners, there are details about foreplay and seduction.

From Chapter IX of the Anaga Ranga:


The following verses show how much art and science there is in a matter which appears so simple to the uneducated and vulgar.

"What is the remedy when a woman is mightier than a man? Although she be very strong, yet no sooner are her legs placed wide apart, than she loses her force of passion, and is satisfied."


"Thus the Yoni from being tight and compact, becomes slack and loose; let the husband, therefore, press her thighs together, and she will be equally able to struggle with him at the time of congress."


There are five main Bandha or A'sana-forms or postures of congress - which appear in the following shape, and each of these will require its own description successively, and in due order.


(A) Uttana-bandha (i.e., supine posture) is the great division so-called by men well versed in the Art of Love, when a woman lies upon her back, and her husband sits close to her upon his hams. But is this all that can be said of it? No! no! there are eleven sub-divisions...

(B) Tiryak (i.e., aslant, awry posture) whose essence consists of the woman lying upon her side. Of this division, there are three sub-divisions...


(C) Upavishta (i.e., sitting) posture. Of this division there are ten sub-divisions...


(D) Utthita, or the standing posture, which admits of three sub-divisions...


(E) Vyanta-bandha, which means congress with a woman when she is prone, that is, with the breast and stomach to the bed or carpet. Of this A'sana, there are only two well-known sub-divisions...

Happy Father's Day to all the dads!

Carmen McRae (April 8, 1920 - November 10, 1994) was an American composer, pianist, actress and jazz singer. Her behind-the-beat phrasing and interpretations of lyrics made her memorable and one of the most influential jazz vocalists of the 20th century. She recorded over 60 albums and performed in the United States, Europe and Japan.

She performed for over 50 years and was forced to retire in 1991 due to emphysema. She died in 1994 from a stroke, following complications from respiratory illness. Here she is singing 'Love for Sale'.

Tempest Storm (born February 29, 1928) is the stage name of American stripper, burlesque star and actress, Annie Blanche Banks. Along with Blaze Starr and Lili St. Cyr, she was one of the best known burlesque performers of the 1950s and 1960s.

She has had one of the longest careers as a burlesque performer, spanning more than 50 years. She is in her 80s and still regularly performs at burlesque events. She currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada.

One Woman and Two Monks

Ling Mengchu (1580—1644) produced over thirty works in various genres during his lifetime. He was a Confucian scholar and has been described as an "ethical hedonist". Very few of Ling's works have survived but two volumes of erotic stories known collectively as ''Two Slaps"' have been preserved. Each volume contains forty stories.

His stories are all preoccupied with sexuality and include bold, aggressive, cunning, and seductive men, and highly passionate, sensual, and sexually insatiable women.

Themes of covertness, deceitfulness, and voyeurism feature prominently, as do carnal orgies, partner swapping, and menage à trois, between all possible gender combinations.

Here is an excerpt from the story, One Woman and Two Monks...the three characters are the Old Monk, a young monk named Zhiyuan, and a female "village wench' named Du, who has entered the temple to get out of the rain.

Though highly passionate, the Old Monk was not a man with sexual stamina. Quite a bit of his sperm had leaked as he hugged Du, and the real engagement lasted for only a short while before he spent. Du had initially been very impatient with him. Now her discontent turned to ill-feeling. She rose and tied her skirt, grumbling, "You worthless old idiot! Aren't you ashamed? What have you been so desperate for?"

Knowing that he had left her unsatisfied, the Old Monk felt rather dejected. He called out to Zhiyuan to open the door for him, and Zhiyuan, unlatching it, stepped in and asked, "Was it good?"

"What an experienced woman!" said the Old Monk. "It is just that today I wasn't skillful enough and left her somewhat disappointed."

"I can work her up," said Zhiyuan.

He rushed into the room, and closing the door behind him, turned and embraced her...Seizing this chance, Zhiyuan took her into his arms and planted a deep kiss on her mouth. He then carried her to the bed and engaged her at once in copulation, which, in comparison with the previous session, was indeed very different:

Blaze Starr (born Fannie Belle Fleming, January 1, 1932) is an American former stripper and burlesque star. Her vivacious presence, striking red hair, voluptuous figure and inventive use of stage props earned her the nickname "The Hottest Blaze in Burlesque".

Her theatrical flourishes and unique gimmicks that she used in her stage show went beyond established burlesque routines like the fan dance or the balloon dance.

One of her most famous props was a couch that she rigged to smolder and appear to burst into flames as she sat on it and undressed.

She was also known for her affair with Louisiana governor Earl Long. The affair started in the 1950s and lasted until his death in 1960. The 1989 movie, Blaze, recounts the story of their relationship. The movie is an adaptation from Starr's 1974 memoir Blaze Starr: My Life as Told to Huey Perry. Lolita Davidovich portrays Starr in the movie, with Paul Newman playing Governor Long. Starr herself appears in a cameo role.

The Consoler

A dildo is a sexual device resembling a penis in shape, size, and overall appearance, and intended for bodily penetration during masturbation and sex. The Spanish call it a consolador (the consoler).

Dildos in one form or another have been present in society throughout history. The world's oldest known dildo was found in Hohle Fels Cave near Ulm, Germay. Writings of Prostitutes

Did you know that prostitution was the main focus of many of the earliest erotic literary works? The term 'pornography' comes from the Greek pornographos meaning "the writings of prostitutes."

The writings were descriptions of the lives and manners of prostitutes and their customers in ancient Greece.

Here is a picture from the book, The Adventures of Miss Fanny Hill. Written in 1748, while the author was in debtor's prison, it was considered the first original English prose pornography.

The novel is a series of letters from Frances 'Fanny' Hill, a young prostitute who works in a brothel in London, to a woman friend. Anal intercourse, mutual masturbation, masochism, drag balls, homosexuality, bisexuality, drugs, orgies and rape fantasies are all written about in her letters.

The Golden Lotus Love Pagoda (Jin Ping Mei) is a classic erotic Chinese epic tale written during the late Ming Dynasty (1600s). Due to its graphic, sexually explicit nature, it was forbidden and banned for hundreds of years.

The story is a fictional account of harem life during the Sung dynasty (AD 1101-26) and follows the adventures of Hsi-Men Ching, a wealthy man living with his six wives and concubines. He meets Chin P'ing Mei (Golden Lotus) and schemes to kill her husband. He then seduces and marries her. This brings about his downfall, and that of his family, as the women in the harem struggle for influence and prestige. An excerpt from the book:

...She parted her trembling thighs and raised them reverently as if she was making an offering to a god. She offered up her furry saddle to Hsi Men's passion-shot eyes, a saddle reserved for the strongest men. Only he could stirrup himself to it and ride this passionate world at a furious gallop. Her nipples stiffened at the thought.

Oh he could bite them off with his strong white teeth if he wished and leave her bleeding. Already that tiny cherry enchantment, set beneath the fur and hidden between those firm folds, was sending out its sparking thrills to all parts of her lovely body. Her satin skin was on fire. She writhed. A gasp burst through her juicy mouth, a low gasp but so filled with longing that it made the goblet, on the stool nearby, ring as if some jade-throated singing girl had torn the air with the purest note.

"Come, come!" she cried as she stared half in terror at his fearful tenterhook, and he, wide-eyed, with the visage of a warrior who is about to plunge his sword down the gullet of a green dragon, leaped forward, grabbing her ivory waist with his two strong hands. Thus is the flesh of beauty bruised as magnolia petals by the lusty fingers of summer.

As he leaped, she raised her knees for protection and, pressed against his brawny chest, they barred his way, but not for long. While Hsi Men squeezed himself between her knees, his sturdy fingers sought under her creamy buttocks for heaven's brown starfish, that second place of pleasure with which deft fingernails are able to spice the treat. Gold Lotus felt as if her heart was there, her woman's heart bare and fluttering like caged butterflies. Another cry left her lips, a sharp animal cry – of pain or pleasure one cannot tell...
